DOHA: The first edition of the construction materials code for the GCC will be launched by the end of next year, a senior official of the Ministry of Environment has said.
Dr Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary for Laboratory Affairs, said the launch will take place in Doha in the presence of officials from all GCC states.
On the sidelines of a meeting of the higher committee for GCC construction materials code in Abu Dhabi, Al Kuwari told Qatar News Agency that the code is a significant move to improve the quality of construction in the region and cope with new developments in the sector.
The first edition was completed in two years, ahead of the three-year deadline. The code will contain proposals related to fire safety, green building techniques, energy conservation, planning and maintenance of buildings, environment protection and occupational safety at work sites.
He said the meeting had approved a Qatari proposal to set up a link for the code in the website of the standardisation authorities of the member countries. It will also be made available at the websites of other concerned agencies.
