Doha: A total of 1,406 people have registered for the Qatar Falconry and Hunting Festival which begins on January 5, organisers said yesterday.
The organising committee said it had completed preparations for the sixth edition to be held in Sabkhat Marmi near Sealine, Mesaieed, under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The final draw for competitions was held at Gannas Society’s headquarters in Katara Building No. 33 on Wednesday following the completion of registration, said the panel.
The committee said the festival ground has been equipped with the best facilities for competitions.
There is a sophisticated system for communication between members of committees supervising the competitions to ensure accurate results, which will be announced directly to the public in attendance.
The committee praised efforts of the supporting agencies participating in the event and welcomed participants from other GCC countries.
This demonstrates that the festival has become a destination for falconers, especially the elite, and those who have a long history in the sport so important to the countries and the region’s heritage, said the committee.
