DOHA: International and local experts will gather in Doha between tomorrow and Monday to explore how technology can be adopted and applied in classrooms to enhance teaching practices and learning. The occasion is the 6th annual Exploring Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Education Conference at College of the North Atlantic Qatar in partnership with Maersk Oil Qatar.

The meeting will offer over 70 hands-on workshop sessions from 22 specialists, with the theme this year being ‘Robotics in Education’. Keynote speakers include Dr Ethan Danahy of Tufts University, USA and world renowned robotics expert Daniel Benedettelli from Italy, who will discuss the exciting educational possibilities presented by LEGO robotics and how these can be integrated into the classroom. Workshops available at the conference will cover a range of topics including sessions on introductory and advanced robotics, Web 2.0 tools for the classroom, and authoring digital content.

“We’re excited to be able to provide such an important learning experience for teachers and administrators from schools around Qatar,” said Dr Theodore Chiasson, Dean of the School of Information Technology at CNA-Q. “Information and communications technology is breaking down barriers in classrooms, creating new and exciting ways for students to learn and prepare for the future. It is vital that educators keep abreast of the innovations that are available,” he stated.

Faisal Al Medaihki, Social Investment Manager at Maersk Oil Qatar, said: “We are delighted to be partners with the College of the North Atlantic—Qatar for this event. The Exploring ICT in Education Conference is a fantastic opportunity for school teachers and administrators to build their knowledge and skills in technology and enhance the learning environment in schools.”  He added that “through our comprehensive social investment programme, Maersk Oil is committed to supporting education and learning in Qatar and doing so in innovative and engaging ways. The ICT conference continues to deliver cutting edge content and we hope this year the robotics theme will drive interest in science, technology and engineering in schools across Qatar.”
