DOHA: The Indian embassy’s labour and community welfare section received 578 complaints in the first two months of 2014.
It received 3,558 complaints in 2013, according to a statement yesterday.
It also registered the death of 20 Indians in February, taking to 44 the total registered so far this year.
An embassy team visited the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre last week to enquire about the welfare of Indian detainees.
The number of Indians in the Central Prison and the Deportation Centre is 64 and 138, respectively.
Following requests from Qatari authorities for travel documents for detainees at the Deportation Centre, the embassy issued 10 emergency certificates in February, along with three tickets to nationals who could not afford their travel expenses, to facilitate their deportation.
The Indian Community Benevolent Forum continues to help Indian workers through its welfare measures.
It has been providing air tickets, medical help and financial assistance to the needy.
