Doha: The Minister of Transport H E Jassim bin Seif Al Sulaiti has said Qatar is committed to transparency while awarding contracts for major projects.
Qatar has no special interests in any particular country in terms of awarding contracts, he told Al Arab. The government is looking for companies that meet the required technical competence as partners to execute projects.
Competent contracting companies from various countries are involved in the Metro Rail project and works are not restricted to any one country, he said.
On procuring the high-tech tunnel boring machines (TBMs) from the German company Herrenknecht, he said this firm is the world’s biggest that develops such equipment. It produces almost 60 percent of drilling equipment in the world, the Minister added.
“Qatar seeks partnership with companies in various countries to execute projects related to the Metro Rail.
“Herrenknecht got the contract after winning the bid. It has delivered one TBM.
“Qatar will be receiving another 14 TBMs soon to help expedite the Metro Rail project,” he said.
Regarding partnership of the private sector in the rail project, the Minister said partnerships with private companies are not limited to the project.
Qatari private companies must take advantage of working with international companies, he added. The Peninsula
