New Delhi: Petrol price was raised yesterday by 60 paise a litre, minus taxes, while the diesel rate was hiked by 50 paise per litre. The revised prices will take effect from midnight, it was announced.
Diesel prices were last increased by 50 paise per litre on January 31, while petrol price was kept unchanged.
Allowing for local taxes, the price of petrol per litre will be Rs73.16 in Delhi, Rs80.96 in Kolkata, Rs82.07 in Mumbai and Rs76.48 in Chennai, while that of diesel per litre for the four metros, respectively, will be Rs55.48, Rs60.09, Rs63.86 and Rs59.17.
Announcing the rates, Indian Oil specified that the petrol hike in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai is “due to revision in state specific cost”.
Maoists kill five policemen in Chhattisgarh
Dantewada, Chhattisgarh: Maoist guerrillas yesterday gunned down at least five policemen in a forested area in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.
Dozens of Maoists fired on a police team checking roads for possible concealed land mines in an area about 440km south of Raipur. The police team was led by Vivek Shukla.
“At least five policemen including Shukla were martyred in the deadly attack,” Datewada Superintendent of Police Narendra Khare said. “The Maoists walked away with AK-47s of the dead policemen.”
TRS decision on merger with Cong on March 3
Hyderabad: TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao said his party will decide on March 3 whether or not to merge his party with the Congress.
He told reporters here yesterday that he alone can’t take a decision on the issue.
A joint meeting of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) politburo and other bodies will be held on March 3 to chalk out the future course of action in the wake of the passage of the Telangana bill in parliament.
