DOHA: A new Souq Haraj (market for used household goods) is being built reportedly as part of an Economic Zone that is earmarked for logistics and warehouses.
The bidding process for the project will begin from Tuesday and last until Thursday, reports QNA.
A logistics committee at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce had invited tenders for the project. The bidding is to be submitted to Manateq (Economic Zones Company).
To recall, there have been media reports that the famous Souq Haraj in Najma is being removed to make way for a massive commercial complex.
This historic Souq (for second-hand household items) has been the city’s landmark for decades and a delight especially of limited-income families and low-income workers.
Qatar is building three economic zones. The proposed Souq Haraj project is expected to be part of Economic Zone I.
