Doha: An injury time goal from Vadimir Weiss helped defending champions Lekhwiya register a fighting 1-0 win over Al Sadd and bounce back to the top of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) standings.
Yesterday at Al Sadd Stadium, the Slovakian international scored in the 91st minute to give Michael Laudrup full points in the 19th round match of QSL.
Lekhwiya with their 14th win now have 45 points from 19 matches, two more than second placed Al Sadd.
Also yesterday, third placed El Jaish consolidated their position in the top three with a 3-1 win over Al Sailiya.
Romario Ricardo Silva scored a brace for El Jaish, striking in the fifth and 21st minute. Magid Mohamed Hassan also found the net in the 48th minute for the winners.
Al Sailiya pulled one back in the 43rd miunute thorugh Mostafa Mohamed. El Jaish now have 34 points three more to fourth placed Qatar SC.
The match between yesterday Al Arabi and Al Kharaitiyat ended in a thrilling draw.
The match between the two produced eight goals.
Al Arabi were leading 3-1 at the end of half time but Al Kharaitiyat bounce back to secure a point in the four-all draw. Sergio Dutra Junior notched a hat-trick for Al Arabi scoring in the 6, 24 and 32th minute. Paulo Sergio added the fourth goal for Al Arabi.
For Al Kharaitiyat, Hasan Mahmoud (71 and 76), Domingos Santos (35) and Abdul Rashid Ansari (53) were the scorers. Al Kharaitiyat now have 23 points one more than Al Arabi.
