DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has warned the public against the use of antiviral medicines Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) and Zanamivir (Relenza) for treatment of H1N1, without a prescription.
People have also been advised against using these medicines as a prevention against H1N1.
“The widespread inappropriate use of these medicines could increase the risk of the virus developing resistance to them,” the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department said in a warning notice on its website. Antiviral medicines should only be purchased or used with a prescription from a healthcare practitioner after a patient is examined, it added. The Peninsula
