Top WCMC-Q students honoured

DOHA: The academic excellence of 29 top Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) students was recognised at a ceremony to mark their inclusion in the Dean’s Honour List.
The ceremony at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Student Centre acknowledged efforts of first and second-year pre-medical students who made it to the list by achieving GPA scores of 3.75 or above in the Fall 2014 term.
The students who qualified for the Honour List are Khulood Abdul Hameed, Chandrakumaran Abivarma, Toqa Afifi, Huda Alalami, Said Alnajjar, Fatema Al Wahshi, Tina Bharani, Welathanthrige Botheju, Farah Bshesh, Nada Darwish, Syeda Razia Haider, Irfan Helmy, Merna Hussien, Faezah Khan, Gi Eun Kim, Menatalla Mekhaimar, Suresh Menik Arachchige, Yahya Othman, Priyamvada Pillai, Ahmed Daniyaal Rasheed, Cleo Zarina Reyes, George Sadek, Zaid Shahrori, Mohamed Soliman, Sudarshan Srivats, Aya Tabbalat, Tarek Taha, Sharan Yadav and Fawzi Zghyer.
Dr Javaid Sheikh, Dean, presented each student with an award to commemorate their inclusion in the list.
WCMC-Q alumna Dr Noora Al Shahwani, who graduated in 2011 and now a paediatric surgery resident at Hamad Medical Corporation, told the gathering: “Each of you has done something spectacular and I am sure I speak for everyone involved with WCMC-Q and your families when I say that we are all proud of you.
“A life in medicine is a life committed to lifelong learning, and I urge you to continue to apply your intellect and curiosity to improve your knowledge throughout your careers.
“In this way, you will not only reach your maximum potential but you will also ensure that you are able to provide the best care possible to your patients,” Dr Al Shahwani added.
