More companies announce opportunities

DOHA: As Qatar Career Fair 2013 opens its doors today at Qatar National Convention Centre, many government and private institutions have announced the opportunities which they have for young Qataris. Rashid Al Naimi, Qatar Foundation’s Vice President of Administration said, “Qatar Foundation’s participation in Qatar Career Fair is the greatest proof of our belief in the importance of reaching out to young promising Qataris and attracting talented nationals.” “This year’s fair will include 140 institutions from the public and private sectors. The diverse range of organisations will help us provide wider opportunities for job seekers and recent graduates, so they can find the most suitable place to launch their careers,” he added. 

 

HMC

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is seeking to recruit top Qatari talent with 1000 opportunities on offer in areas including medical, nursing, allied health and other support and administrative positions. “At the Qatar Career Fair HMC is highlighting the career opportunities available to Qatari nationals, specifically students and undergraduates as well as those seeking roles in the medical and allied health areas,” said Fatima Haidar, Acting Executive Director of Human Resources at HMC. Haidar said HMC is committed to providing competitive benefits and salaries to attract top professionals and to retain them, to enable the Corporation to grow to meet the healthcare needs of the nation. 

 

Qatar Airways 

Qatar Airways has announced that over 100 new positions will be open for nationals. The national airline said it was offering positions across the business including its subsidiaries and the country’s new aviation gateway — Hamad International Airport.

A three-fold increase on last year’s offering, the new positions are available in different fields including commercial, finance, operations, administration, human resources, marketing, information technology, corporate planning and ground services. The recruitment includes jobs for fresh graduates to join a 22-month rotation programme between departments and an aviation management scheme for those already in employment yet with no industry experience but looking for a career change into the sector. 

 

Qatar Tourism Authority 

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will unveil new career and training opportunities in the tourism industry. 

Issa Al Mohannadi, Chairman of QTA, said, “At the Fair we will be connecting with young Qataris, graduates and students to present new opportunities for a rewarding career in the tourism industry. Our booth at the event will reflect how we want to promote Qatar through a new tourism strategy that seeks to encourage enterprise in the industry as well as offer jobs and training in hospitality and tourism studies. Above all we want to ensure that young people are equipped with the training they need to build successful careers as professionals in our industry.”

 

DFI

Doha Film Institute (DFI) will provide an opportunity to apply for an invaluable internship, helping them get a first hand experience of the industry and make better informed career choices.

DFI will be rolling out three internship programmes, Dedicated Internships, Rotational Internships and Shadowing, which will be available to all students across a wide range of disciplines and interests including Marketing, Communications, Information Technology, Event Production, Finance, Programming, New Media/Content, Production, Sponsorship, Editorial and Translation, Design, Human Resources, Community Outreach and Legal. 

The Dedicated Internships will run between 12-24 weeks with the objective to provide individuals with the opportunity to work alongside talented DFI staff and gain hands-on-experience understanding the chosen department’s operations. The Rotational Internships will run between four and six weeks in the Spring and Summer terms (January till June) and interns will have the opportunity to spend time in two or four departments at DFI, depending on the duration of the selected programme. It will also provide candidates with a brief yet informative insight into the daily activities of each department helping to gain a broad understanding of the specified disciplines across the organisation. The Rotational Internships can also be credited if the department in question is relevant to the intern’s educational degree.

 

Maersk Oil

Maersk Oil Qatar, the country’s largest offshore operator has developed a tailor-made Qatari Graduate Development Programme (QGDP), aimed at providing development opportunities for non-engineering students who want to succeed in the industry. 

Fawzi Al Ajji, Head of Qatarization at Maersk Oil Qatar commented, “Careers in this field are highly rewarding and provide wonderful long-term opportunities. Nevertheless, there remains a shortage of Qatari graduates choosing and succeeding in this career path due to a lack of technical or industrial knowledge; we want to help change this. So in 2012 we developed a graduate programme which has been tailored to attract and retain Qatar’s brightest and most ambitious young people to our industry by providing a development path for non-technical graduates, similar to the structured path offered to our engineers.” The two-year programme consists of several rotations within selected departments – helping participants to understand the business value chain. It provides them with the necessary knowledge, skills and key competencies to help them both develop and grow personally, while also maximising their contribution to the company.
