Forum on linguistics in Gulf held

Doha: The Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University’s College of Arts & Sciences (QU-CAS) hosted the 5th biennial International Linguistics in the Gulf Conference. 
The two-day forum aimed to provide a platform for scholars and professionals whose research interests focus on language in the Gulf to share research and expertise and promote the study of linguistics in the region.
It drew over 200 participants, including faculty and students from local, regional and international educational institutions. 
The opening ceremony was attended by the Dean of the college, Dr Eiman Mustafawi, Associate Dean for  Research and Graduate Affairs, Dr Mohamed Ahmedna, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr Hassan Abdulaziz, and Head of the department, Dr Ali Idrissi.
The opening lecture was delivered by keynote speakers Prof Adbulqader Fassi Fehri from Muhamed V University on ‘Arabic Ways to Be Gendered’, and Prof Yasir Suleiman from University of Cambridge on ‘Arabic Language Ideology: Principles and Applications’.
The event featured 34 presenters from local, regional and international universities, including eight QU graduates.
