Al Wakrah and Muaither have officially been relegated to the Qatar Gas League.
Al Wakrah suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Al Khor last evening. Jean Fernandez’s side proved to be too strong for Wakrah, and goals in either half confirmed the inevitable for the Blue Waves.
Muaither also could not extend their stay in the QSL for another year, following their one-all stalemate at Al Gharafa Stadium yesterday.
For Muaither, this was confirmed despite securing a battling 1-1 draw with Al Sailiya. Results went against Phillipe Birol’s side, meaning that the Stallions are sent straight back to the Qatar Gas League after one season in the Qatar Stars League.
Against the run of play, Muaither grabbed the lead in the 5th minute when Iranian international Ahmed Yasin scored a spectacular curling shot which was too much for Sailiya keeper Gregory Gomis. Sailiya quickly registered their first chance of note In the 10th minute, Al Sailiya’s Romanian midfielder Valentin Laz?r curled in a well-taken free-kick but the ball narrowly missed the far goalpost.
At the half-hour mark, Al Sailiya produced the equaliser from the penalty spot .Uzbekistan international Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov stepped up for his side and wrong footed Muaither goalkeeper Basel Zaidan who dove to his left, for his fifth goal of the season.
Neither side managed to score in the remaining time of the second half though Al Sailiya defender Rami Fayez was sent off for picking up two yellow cards in the game in the 84th minute. The point was not enough for the Stallions who have been relegated to the Qatar Gas League with two games of the season left to play.
Al Wakrah,  confirmed their relegation after a 2-0 defeat to Al Khor yesterday evening. Jean Fernandez’s side proved to be too strong for Wakrah, and goals in either half confirmed the inevitable for the Blue Waves.
Madson took the all important lead for Al Khor in the thirty seventh minute. The diminutive forward made a smart turn and smashed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal with a left footed strike. Al Khor had most of the ball in the first half and made the most of their chances.
Al Wakrah could not  score a goal despite having some clear chances especially when Moroccan midfielder Mouhcine Moutouali sent the ball wide when he was one on one with the keeper.
In the 67th minute it looked like Maher Yousef was going to equalise for Wakrah. However, after a brilliant counterattacking run and finding himself in front of goal with just the keeper to beat he sent his shot wide off the target.
Al Khor made Wakrah to rue their missed chances when Jean Fernandez's men added a second goal to make matters worse for Al Wakrah. Madson got himself an assist as his pass from the half way line found an unmarked Mouhcine Iajour, who ran with the ball towards the box and played it round the keeper, Hassan Idris, before sending it into the net.
