Geneva: Qatar has reaffirmed its interest to develop education as a basic pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, highlighting the establishment of the Supreme Education Council as the competent authority responsible for the development and advancement of education.
Noor Ibrahim Al Sada, second secretary at Qatar’s permanent mission to the United Nations, made these remarks addressing the 23rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva at an interactive discussion with the Special Rapporteur on the right to education Kishore Singh.
Al Sada hailed Singh’s 2012 participation in the World Innovation Summit for Education in Doha, during which H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser launched the Educate a Child initiative, an effort that, Al Sada said, would contribute to the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals in education.
She underlined the keenness of the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on finding innovative means of funding education, referring to the Emiri decision on May 22 that established a health and education fund with huge capital to provide sustainable financial resources to fund educational programmes. She said Qatar welcomes the recommendations of the special rapporteur, especially his call for creating a mechanism that protects the right to education. QNA
