doha: As part of National Health Strategy which aims at improving the health of the community in the State of Qatar, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will launch the patient triaging system in Al Gharafa Health Centre this month.
This service was implemented in Abu Nakhla Health Centre in July and will be extended to all health centres according to the plan set.
Under the system, all visitors who come without a prior appointment will be seen by well trained and professional medical team based on an assessment and classification to decide the order by which they will be treated. Those who, based on their assessment, need to be treated by a physician as a priority will be seen first. Others will be asked to wait or be given an appointment for appropriate time/date.
Dr Hanan Al Mujalli, Regional Director for North area at PHCC, said: “The aim of the classification system is to ensure that patients are treated according to clinical need. Therefore, patients whose condition requires it will be treated by the physician as a priority rather than waiting with other patients. This way all patients will have time to sit with a doctor instead of wasting time in waiting,” said Al Mujalli.
She said the new system would also help reduce the crowding at health centers and improve the quality of services. Triaging will be done by a team of well-trained/professional doctors and nurses.
At the initial stage, the new process may cause some delay, and for that Primary Health Care Corporation kindly requests all patients and visitors to be cooperative in order to ensure the success of implementing this system.
In accordance with the Emiri Decree No. (15) issued in February 2012, Primary Health Care Corporation became an independent corporation.
