Doha, Qatar: As students across Qatar return to schools after the summer break, the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has intensified its efforts to ensure safe and smooth traffic around educational institutions.
The Ministry of Interior in a post on X platform said: “For the safety of school students, we recommend that they be guided to cross the road only through pedestrian crossings.”
In preparation for the new academic year, the Ministry emphasised the importance of road safety, particularly for young students. Parents are advised to guide their children on using pedestrian crossings and adhering to traffic rules.
Traffic authorities have implemented a comprehensive plan that includes heightened security and monitoring of buses and other vehicles near schools. Patrolling officers are actively ensuring that school buses operate safely, maintaining appropriate speeds, and adhering to safety protocols. Supervisors and safety personnel are deployed to observe student boarding and alighting, ensuring order and preventing accidents.
Drivers are reminded to exercise extreme caution near schools, stop when required, and avoid any reckless behaviour.
The Ministry also stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns to address potential hazards and educate students and drivers on safe practices. Parents are encouraged to prepare their children for school routines, teaching them respect for school property, proper behaviour on buses, and awareness of traffic rules.
Children are reminded to fasten their seat belts and remain seated while on school buses.
Authorities highlighted that the beginning of the school year carries a sense of renewal, energy, and hope. Students are urged to engage actively in their educational journey while maintaining discipline and respect for their surroundings. Families are called upon to support children in adopting safe practices.
MoI said ensuring students’ safety requires a combined effort from parents, school staff, and the community. By working together, Qatar can provide a secure, stable, and welcoming environment for children to thrive academically while safeguarding their well-being.
