DOHA: The Department of Dentistry at the Hamad Medical Corporation has introduced a new treatment for patients with tooth disorder.
A tailor-made transparent alternative brace being used in Europe and the US has been introduced in Qatar and 50 people are using it.
The Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that change every two weeks for the next set of aligners.
Each aligner is individually manufactured for the person’s teeth. As replacement, aligner teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by the dental practitioner. However, the new treatment would cost same as the steal braces and take similar time to align the teeth, say experts.
“Is a very easy and comfortable method of treatment,” Dr Henno Rainer, Senior Consultant-Chairman at the department, told a press conference at the Hamad Medical City yesterday.
He has supported to introduce the Invisalign treatment in Qatar. It has also been introduced in private hospitals.
More female patients get braces fixed at all ages at the HMC and about 2,000 people are on treatment.
“We get more women coming for braces, and some at the age of 60 years,” said Dr Rainer.
