DOHA: An entertainment and cultural event for expatriates will be held on Saturday to mark Eid Al Adha.
‘Eid Al Adha Fest 2014’, organised by the Ministry of Interior with six expatriate communities, will be held at the West End Park (cricket stadium) in Industrial Area and at Al Khor Sports Club, officials said yesterday.
The events are being held for single workers and families between 5 pm and 10 pm at West End Park, and from 3 pm onwards at Al Khor Sports Club. The events will give the audiences the opportunity to win prizes.
“The expat community members are our partners in nation-building, and this programme has been organised as an appreciation of their support. We aim to host an entertainment event where expatriates can enjoy the Eid day by watching cultural performances,” said the Director of the Community Policing Department, Lt-Colonel Ahmed Zayed Al Muhnnadi, while addressing a press conference at the Civil Defence headquarters.
“Such programmes will strengthen partnership between the expatriate communities and the Ministry of Interior. We invite everyone to come and join Eid Al Adha Fest 2014,’ he said.
Community Policing Officer Lt-Colonel Ghanim Saad Al Khayarin, and Lt. Shaheen Rashid Al Atheeq from Public Relations Department were also preset at the press conference.
Artists from the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Indonesian communities will perform in the cultural show and ‘Singing Birds Orchestra’ will provide technical support to the performers at West End Park.
The Al Khor stadium, which can accommodate 8,000 people, will host a football match and a tug of war between teams representing companies from 3 pm onwards. Performances by members of the Nepalese community will start at the main stadium on 5 pm.
The events at West End Park and Al Khor Sports Club are open to single workers and families, but special areas will be earmarked for families.
The audience will get the opportunity to win 100 prizes sponsored by Malabr Gold at West End Park and 50 prizes at Al Khor Sports Club through an entry coupon draw. Another 100 prizes will be sponsored by the Ministry of Interior at both venues. Special gifts will be given to children.
