Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs in cooperation with the Food Security Department, organised a workshop to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, observed annually on September 29.
The event came as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote food sustainability and raise awareness about the importance of reducing food loss and waste.
The workshop was attended by Adel Al-Yafei, Assistant Director of the Department of Agricultural Affairs, along with a number of ministry officials and staff. Experts from the agriculture and food security sectors also participated, alongside representatives from Qatar University and Hassad Food.
Discussions highlighted key challenges associated with food loss and waste, while showcasing best practices that contribute to minimising losses across various stages of production, storage, distribution, and consumption.
The programme featured a presentation by Dr. Mohamed Al-Sir Awad from the Department of Agricultural Affairs on “Awareness of Agricultural Loss on the International Day of Food Loss and Waste,” as well as a presentation by Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ghazal from the Food Security Department on “Policies and Strategies for Raising Awareness of Food Waste.”
Participants underscored the importance of fostering a culture of responsible consumption, reducing loss and waste, and enhancing the sustainability of resources in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
