Doha: Aspetar’s first World Conference on Groin Pain in Athletes – the three-day event got under way yesterday, featuring a range of innovative discussions and presentations specifically designed to help medical staff better examine, diagnose and treat patients with groin injuries.
This is the first event of its kind to be held. The Conference is attended by some of the big names in the field of sports medicine including Dr Michel d’Hooghe, Chairman FIFA Medical Committee, FIFA Executive Committee Member who is the Conference Honorary President.
Dr Khalifa Alkuwari, Director General of Aspetar, said: “We are delighted to gather the leading experts to see advancing excellence in sports medicine.”
He added: “We aim to raise awareness of the many different areas, especially in the treatment and prevention of common injuries, such as groin pain and help the athletes to achieving their full potential”
The conference brings together more than 30 world leading experts, who will give invited lectures and plenary sessions at the conference. More than 70 overseas delegates are attending the conference.
The three-day conference will educate and inspire clinicians, scientists, researchers, with the latest developments in sports medicine and how to diagnose and treat groin pain.
The hope is that it will drive collaboration within the field to facilitate research.
Many Topics to be covered including: Epidemiology of Groin Pain in Athletes, Risk Factors for Groin Pain in Athletes, Clinical Examination and Outcome Measures in Groin Pain in Athletes, Imaging in Groin Pain in Athletes, Treatment of Groin Pain in Athletes and Treatment of Hip Pain in Athletes. During the conference, members of Aspetar Sports Groin Pain Center team will present the results of the clinical treatment and research in Qatar.
Prof Per Holmich; Head of Aspetar Sports Groin Pain Centre said: “Groin pain in athletes can be a serious and sometimes career-ending injury and it is one of the most common injuries at all in sports. In football it is the second most common injury. It includes both injuries to the muscles and tendons in the region as well as the hip joint.”
Aspetar also played a leading role at “The 1st European day on groin pain”. The full-day event took place on October 3rd 2014 in Boudreaux, France and was attended by 300 participants.
