More than 10,000 new customers have registered for the service since the launch.
DOHA: Qtel’s new Mobile Money MoneyGram service – which allows customers to send money to 293,000 local agents in 196 countries – has received a huge response in Qatar since its launch at the start of the month.
In total, more than 10,000 new customers have registered for the service since the launch, and thousands of transactions are being made every month, as customers top up their Hala and send money to friends, family and business connections here in Qatar and across the globe to Europe, the Americas and Asia including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
Qtel is preparing for another major spike this weekend, as people send home a proportion of their salary at the end of the month. The company has taken a specially-modified Qtel Shop on Wheels out into industrial areas and workers’ compounds to ensure that the people who could benefit most from the service have access to it.
Thanks to the agreement with MoneyGram, Qtel Mobile Money customers can transfer money to whoever they want to, whenever and wherever they need to. Transfer of the money is almost instantaneous and recipients can collect the cash safely and reliably from the MoneyGram local agents. Qtel launched Mobile Money in 2011 and has since developed a simple registration process where customers simply dial *140# on their mobiles and follow straight-forward on-screen instructions. All they need is to have their Qatari ID ready to complete the process.
Once registered, customers can deposit money into their account using any of the 200 Qtel Self-Service Machines available all over Qatar. Anyone over the age of 18 that has a Qatari ID can register for Qtel Mobile Money.
In a new promotion, Qtel is rewarding customers by entering them into a contest to win 10 new iPhone 5 smartphones when they pay their Kahramaa utility bills through Qtel’s Self-Service Machines (SSMs). The promotion runs from today till January 15, 2013. Anyone who pays their Kahramaa utility bill will be automatically entered into the contest.
There are more than 200 Qtel SSMs conveniently located in neighbourhood institutions such as malls, grocery stores and petrol stations across the country, and Qtel is continuing to increase the range of new services and exciting promotions for customers that use them. The Peninsula
