Britain’s NHS to help HMC boost services

DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), is seeking to learn about performance measurement and monitoring from UK’s National Health Service (NHS). 
HMC delivers around 80 per cent of secondary and tertiary care and is working with CHKS to transfer skills used by the NHS to help it improve services.
HMC is hoping to learn from the NHS and transfer knowledge of benchmarking and monitoring to its hospitals. 
In particular HMC will benchmark the performance of individual services and against peer healthcare providers. 
This will allow HMC to improve the quality of care delivered, increase patient safety and reduce the chance of errors; provide accurate and up-to-date information to help make evidence-based clinical and business decisions; assist with the implementation of new information systems by identifying discrepancies with data and data cleansing; improve clinical and operational processes to reduce wastage in costs, time and resources; and inform the business planning and budget setting processes.
Jason Harries, managing director, CHKS said: “We have already created peer groups and delivered first set of benchmarking reports to senior executives of the corporation and clinical and coding staff.”
Harries said benchmarking data will allow HMC to report on its comparative performance across a range of performance indicators on a regular basis. Comparisons will be made between HMC hospitals and with appropriate international peer groups.
David Poland, assistant executive director, HMC said: “The outputs from the regular benchmarking report will be included in the HMC corporate scorecard and reported widely throughout the organisation. They will be used to monitor performance and highlight areas of potential concern and improvement. We look forward to working with CHKS to bring about improvements to the quality of care that we provide to our patients.”
