DOHA: The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) will hold a workshop on the development of environment statistics in Qatar tomorrow and on Tuesday.
Titled “The Environment Statistics 2013”, 70 researchers and experts from government and private sectors as well as petroleum and gas companies in Qatar will take part in the workshop. The participants will discuss selected chapters, from the draft report of the environment statistics 2013, which include multiple statistics and indicators on freshwater, air quality and greenhouse gas emissions.
Participants will discuss the new environment statistics report before drafting the final form and seeks to identify other issues in respect of the next environment statistics report. The Ministry will track the progress by the agencies participating in the improvement of waste statistics and information. The Ministry will also review Qatar’s environment statistics framework.
Several environment statistics workshops were held in the previous years.
The necessity for the organisation of an annual workshop on environment statistics was one of the main recommendations of last year’s workshop, in which the entire stakeholders and concerned agencies were engaged to enhance cooperation to improve the data collection process, and to use various expertise to ensure the quality of environment statistics.
