Kinshasa: The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has declared the end of its 16th Ebola outbreak.

Congolese Health Minister Roger Kamba said, "To date, 53 confirmed cases, 43 deaths, and 11 probable cases have been recorded in connection with the 16th Ebola outbreak, with an overall positive trend."

Kamba added that no new confirmed cases have been recorded for 45 consecutive days, explaining that 27,000 people have been vaccinated, including 4,000 who worked directly with those infected with the virus.

He noted that the Central African nation of Congo is still battling outbreaks of cholera and monkeypox.

The Ebola outbreak resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people between 2018 and 2020 in eastern Congo.
