MES Indian School’s athletic team set new records in the CBSE National Athletic Championship held at Velammal Vidhyashram, Chennai, India, between December 26 and 30, 2012. Around 2,500 athletes from all over India and the Middle East participated in the event and MES Indian School emerged the overall champion from the Middle East with 42 points and seven medals to its credit.
Mohammed Faaz clinched the gold medal in high jump in the boys under-19 category, while in triple jump he set a new CBSE national record for the second position and won the silver medal. The MES boys under-19 relay team broke the CBSE national record. The team comprised Mohammed Faaz, Mohammed Ashiq, Job Johnson, Sijo N Mathew and Adil Ismail.
The MES boys under-16 relay team and the girls under-16 team both secured the fifth place in their 4 X 100 metres races.
Mohammed Hashir Shajahan finished fourth in long jump in the boys under-19 category while Maryann secured the fourth place in the under-19 girls 100 metres sprint. In other 100 metres races, Mohammed Ashiq finished fifth in the under-19 boys category and Deborah Elizabeth came in sixth in the under-16 girls category.
“It is indeed a proud moment in the life of MES, and the victory will be imprinted in the annals of MES Indian School,” remarked A P Sasidharan, Principal, while receiving the MES athletic team on its return to Qatar at the Doha International Airport.
