DOHA: The private sector, government ministries and other state agencies and public sector companies have been asked by the government to submit plans and programmes for National Sports Day in advance.
The last date for submitting details to the Ministry of Youth and Sports is January 15, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.
National Sports Day, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA), is to be observed on February 10.
A joint committee that supervises the day’s activities will respond to plans and programmes of private and state agencies by January 31.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali has issued ministerial decision No. 140 of 2014 on organising National Sports Day, and adopting recommendations of a committee set up to oversee the day’s activities.
The panel has prepared a comprehensive study on National Sports Day activities during the past three years since the day began. It has made recommendations and developed standards and requirements for marking the fourth edition of National Sports Day on February 10.
In preparation for National Sports Day and to provide appropriate conditions for the success of all its events and ensure the achievement of the desired objectives contained in the Emiri Decree No. 80 for 2011 on National Sports Day, the committee has evaluated activities of the previous three years, said the ministry.
The panel reviewed positive aspects of marking National Sports Day such as high rates of participation in the previous three years, the diversity of age and social groups which participate in the events, positive local and international reactions to National Sports Day and broad participation and great importance attached to the day by government agencies, public and private companies and institutions and the media coverage of the events, QNA reports.
The ministerial decision says sport activities should be planned on the day in such a way that they suit the age and health of participants. Safety and security of participants during events are to be taken care of by organisers, said the ministerial decision.
