DOHA: Some Qatari women seeking jobs have criticised private firms offering employment to citizens by organising open recruitment days and said they are not providing suitable jobs to fresh graduates.
They claimed that most jobs on offer on open days are for higher positions like managers, assistant managers and other senior administrators.
“Open days provide opportunities for jobseekers but most jobs do not suit the qualifications of fresh graduates from secondary schools and universities,” said Shawq Al Shahwani, a Qatari woman.
“I always visit open career days conducted by private firms in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs but they disappoint jobseekers by not offering suitable jobs, she added.
“How can a fresh graduate without any experience work as manager or assistant manager or in any other senior position?” asked another woman, Abir Mohammad.
“I could not complete graduation for some reason. Jobs are offered only for university graduates. I did courses in computer and English language but am still jobless. Finally I decided to join university to complete graduation,” she added.
However, a coordinator for open days said plans are afoot to upgrade the hiring process reach out to maximum number of jobseekers.
“We are confident and ambitious about open days. Some sectors lag behind and are a bit slow but open days are witnessing remarkable improvements, said Mohammad Fahad Al Hajari.
He admitted that some jobs offered by firms can not be held by freshers. “Some jobs like cashiers in banks and other administrative positions need specific qualifications and experiences,” said Al Hajari.
Banks and companies offer jobs for managers and assistant managers. The role of the ministry is to notify all jobseekers registered on its database so they can attend open days and submit applications, Al Raya reports. The Peninsula
