Doha: The General Directorate of Civil Defence marked World Civil Defence Day with special programmes at Civil Defence Officers’ Club yesterday.
The event held under the theme ‘Sustainable development and its role in risk reduction’, was attended by Brig. Aman Saad Al Sulaiti, Assistant Director-General, Civil Defence, Brig. Hamad Al Dohaimi, Director, Operations Department, directors and officers from Civil Defence and other departments of the Ministry of Interior.
Staff. Brig. Abdullah Muhammad Al Sowaidi, Director-General, General Directorate of Civil Defence, greeted Civil Defence personnel and highlighted services provided by departments and sections of Civil Defence to protect people from risks.
He praised the dedication of Operations Department personnel in protecting lives and properties, and sacrifices made by them.
He also stressed the importance of support and cooperation among civil agencies and said the safety of the community requires concerted efforts and constructive cooperation of all sectors in society.
Brig. Fahad Al Kubaisi, Director, Administrative Affairs, General Directorate of Civil Defence, said the department is prepared to deploy qualified staff in all its sections, who are trained to carry out their missions efficiently.
Lt. Col. Husain Ibrahim Al Asmakh, Director, Support Service Department, highlighted the department’s role in supplying the required equipment and advanced devices and said Civil Defence has most advanced machines and vehicles.
Students of Omar Bin Al Khattab Independent School for Boys performed a show, in cooperation with Civil Defence, highlighting safety awareness messages.
Brig. Al Sulaiti honoured civil establishments and agencies that supported and cooperated with General Directorate of Civil Defence in awareness programmes. A mock drill was held during which the meeting hall was evacuated and all participants were guided to the assembly point safely after a fire alarm was activated.
