DOHA: The bilateral trade between Qatar and Italy is expected to rise in the current year.
“We expect the total trade between Qatar and Italy to rise in 2016 compared to last year. The growth in trade will depend on how many joint ventures develop between Qatari and Italian companies during the year,” said Andrea Ferrari, Trade Commissioner, Embassy of Italy, Qatar in a press conference held yesterday.
“In the bilateral trade between Qatar and Italy, all the sectors, except helicopters, grew last year,” he said.
Italy is one of the largest trading partners of Qatar in Europe. The balance of trade was in favour of Qatar because of import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
“We are working on a very intensive and diverse programme for promoting Italian exports to Qatar and also Qatari export to Italy. Qatar has been very active investor in Italy in the last few years,” said Riccardo Maria Monti, President, Italian Trade Agency.
“The trade is going very well (between Qatar and Italy). We are among one of the biggest clients of Qatar Gas. We are also a good supplier in terms of technology and equipment that fits into energy and oil and gas industry. We are trying to diversify our presence here,” Maria Monti said.
An agreement was signed on Monday between Qatari and Italian companies to provide uniform and shoes, said Monti. Italian Trade Agency has line up several business promotion initiatives in Qatar for Italian companies.
“We believe that Italian companies can play an important role in Qatar’s process of diversification. Infrastructure industry of Italy is very strong having strong presence globally,” said Monti. The Peninsula
