DOHA: The first edition of Katara Art Forum opened yesterday under the theme ‘Architecture and Art: Power of place as motive for art innovation’.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, welcomed participants at the two-day forum which is discussing studies on the dual concept of place and motive and the role of place in igniting innovation.
Dr Al Sulaiti said the hosting of the event by Katara stems from its interest in architectural arts as reflected particularly in Arab Islamic history and Middle Eastern history in general, and Katara’s strategy to invest in educational and cultural input in aesthetic and innovative values.
He said the forum seeks to open windows in the fields of human creativity and cultural heritage.
Dr Mohammed bin Hamouda Farid Al Zahi presented papers on Islamic architecture, urbanism and Arab art.
Katara has published a book containing papers presented in the fields of innovation and imagination. It highlights the fact that every civilisation has its features and characters and Arab-Islamic civilisation has its distinct art, architecture, engineering and aesthetics manifested in architecture and construction styles of mosques, hospitals, libraries and castles which reflect the unique character of this civilisation.
