DOHA: Al Khor Hospital’s (AKH) Nursing Service held its first nursing grand round to provide a platform for medical and nursing professionals from across Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to exchange knowledge and expertise.
During the session, attended by over 300 participants, nursing leaders from AKH highlighted their nursing services and management procedures for normal and complex cases.
Dr Faiza Yousef Bahnas (picture), Assistant Executive Director of Nursing, AKH, said, “This is the first time AKH has led a session like this and we are delighted to have shared our achievements with our colleagues across HMC. We used this opportunity to share information about a complicated gynaecological case that was successfully dealt with by our highly-skilled nursing team. The nursing staff at the hospital is dedicated to providing the best possible care to our patients and have demonstrated this commitment through effective management of patients’ conditions and taking necessary actions to prevent complications.”
The event featured a lecture on pulmonary embolism, a condition in which one of the pulmonary arteries in the lung is blocked, its major symptoms and best practices to treat it. This was followed by another lecture on anticoagulants (medications that prevent blood-clotting), showing types of medications, the appropriate doses and possible side effects.
An entertaining physical activity was also held, including some exercises advisable for people who perform jobs that need prolonged seating to prevent thrombosis, which is the formation of a blood clot in a part of the circulatory system.
