The Department of Education (DepEd) said  the first day of classes will be earlier in the coming school year.

In a DepEd order, Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the first day of classes  will be on June 1, 2015 in public elementary and secondary schools nationwide  and will end on  April 1, 2016.

“The core events and activities for this school year, which represent the actual teaching-learning days, shall be strictly observed in all schools,” Luistro said.

Luistro said that this coming school year “will consist of 201 school days” inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training (INSET) break.

It also released the list of the different school events and activities—including the number of school days per quarter.

Private schools, Luistro said, may deviate from this school calendar. However, he reminded that they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August.

“They should notify the appropriate DepEd officials in advance regarding any deviation,” he added.
