Doha: The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani presided over the Cabinet regular session held at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
After the meeting the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud announced the decisions.
The Cabinet considered topics tabled on the agenda and approved a draft Emiri decision establishing the Doha Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.
The Centre aims to coordinate and enhance the effective regulations to serve the maritime and air goals of search and rescue in accordance with international standards and legislations to this effect. It will exercise all the powers and competencies to achieve its objectives, including monitoring and receiving distress calls via satellite and pass them to the relevant bodies with the implementation of search and rescue work.
Cabinet also approved a draft law related to the registration of trademarks for GCC states. The law addresses provisions related to procedures for the registration of trademarks, duration of the protection of a trademark, cancellation of its registration, transfer of its ownership, mortgage and seizure, as well as licensing contracts, collective marks, surveillance marks and public interest bodies marks.
Approved a draft decision amending some provisions of decision No.17 of 1998 on establishing a permanent emergency committee.
According to the amendment, three representatives of the national command centre, the coasts and borders’ security department and the public relations department at the Ministry of Interior will be included to this committee.
The Cabinet reviewed the following items and took the appropriate decisions: A letter of the Minister of Business and Trade concerning the proposal for setting up a committee on supervision, coordination and follow-up for managing the current Doha Port works and a memo of the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the letter of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on options of the member states of the depletion of the second distribution of Special Drawing Rights and the recommendation of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) in this regard.
The Cabinet approved the signing of the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances and the draft agreement on security cooperation between Qatar and Tajikistan. QNA
