DOHA: The Central Municipal Council (CMC) has called on the Ministry of Interior to launch a crackdown on buildings storing old goods and garbage on the roofs.
The civic council noted that this practice, if not prevented, could lead fires. The recommendation was made at a meeting of CMC’s Services Committee on Tuesday. Roofs of some buildings are used for dumping garbage and other flammable material that might easily catch fire. This also gives a bad look to the buildings, the committee said in its report.
The report urged the authorities to take action to clean roofs of such buildings and encourage the occupants to grow some ornamental plants or use them to do physical exercise. It also recommended to the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to include a condition in the licensing rules making it mandatory for the building owners to keep the roofs clean.
