DOHA: Nearly 4,000 people attended various activities during the Palestinian Heritage Week, which concluded in Katara on Tuesday.
The Heritage Week, organised by Katara in cooperation with the Palestinian Qatari Friendship Association, witnessed different performances reflecting Palestinian heritage, as well as an exhibition of traditional crafts, pottery and copper antiques, jewellery and furniture.
The Katara General Manager, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, said: “We are always keen to make Katara a real cultural forum by hosting various events from many countries, and in line with our vision we hosted the Palestinian Heritage Week, which drew huge crowds, which reflected the public’s interest in what we offer. It’s a precious trust that makes us proud, and we do our best to maintain it by presenting the best in all our organised events.”
“The Palestinian Heritage Week has a special place in our hearts; we were truly excited to highlight Palestinian culture that symbolises attachment to identity, land and a home country. It was a sublime show used to defend the Palestinian land, heritage and country. We hope that this week’s event will be repeated to acquaint the public with Palestine,” he added.
Palestinian Ambassador Muneer Ghannam said: “The festival was gorgeous, and we thank all the officials at the Cultural Village Foundation Katara. Without doubt, hosting the Palestinian Heritage Week is proof of the solid bond between Qataris and Palestinians. Our brothers in Qatar, both government and nationals, offered all kinds of support and help under the guidance of the Emir of Qatar.”
He added: “Our battle with the enemy is not only a battle of weapons, but also a battle of culture; our enemy endeavours to obliterate our history, identity, heritage and even geography. As a matter of fact, we try to face this enemy by cultural performances that confirm our ownership of the land and its people.”
