NEW YORK: FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke, who is Sepp Blatter's top lieutenant, made $10 million in bank transactions to an account controlled by another high-ranking soccer official, The New York Times reported on Monday.

US federal authorities said the transfer of millions in 2008 from FIFA to accounts controlled by former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner are key elements of the ongoing corruption scandal that has engulfed football's governing body.

The newspaper, citing several law enforcement officials, said the payments are a crucial part of last week's indictment against nine FIFA officials by US authorities and shows the money trail is closer to FIFA President Blatter than previously known.
