Doha: To inculcate awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, Olive International School (OIS), Qatar organised a special assembly on World No Tobacco Day on May 31. Students of Grade 8, 9 and 10 participated in the event.

The event started with a prayer followed by a group discussion by senior students on anti-tobacco. They highlighted the risks involved in the use of tobacco, effects of passive smoking, addiction and how teens get into this danger. Students became well aware about the tobacco monster and made up their minds to stay miles away from it.

Prior to the event, a poster designing competition on anti-tobacco day was conducted for students from Grade 7 to 10. Many students participated in the competition showcasing their creativity and imagination. The top two winners were awarded with prizes.

A presentation on anti-tobacco day was conducted by the chief guest Dr. M S Ajimsha, PhD, DO, MBA, who spoke on the harmful impact of tobacco industry on the environment, the ill effects of tobacco, the fatal disease it causes and the addictive nature of cigarettes.

He briefed students about the side effects that were created due to the use of tobacco and insisted them to stay away from tobacco. The programme helped students in making themselves and others understand what tobacco actually does to a person’s health.
