Doha: The State of Qatar condemned, in the strongest terms, the assassination of journalist and liberated prisoner Ghufran Warasneh by the Israeli occupation forces, at the entrance to Al-Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered, in a statement today, that this heinous crime represents a new link in the series of horrific and repeated crimes of the occupation against the defenseless Palestinian people, and stressed the need to conduct a fair, transparent and credible investigation into this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Ministry called on the international community to take urgent action to prevent the occupation authorities from committing further violations of freedom of expression, and to take all measures to stop violence against Palestinians and media workers and protect them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that international humanitarian law considers journalists, media professionals, and individuals who carry out dangerous professional missions in areas of armed conflict generally to be civilians, and they should be respected and protected.
It also reiterated Qatar's firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Ministry expressed Qatar's condolences to the families of the deceased journalist Ghufran Warasneh.
