Shura Council approves draft law on food, reviews reports

Doha, Qatar: The Shura Council yesterday held its regular weekly session in Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council’s headquarters, chaired by Speaker H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

At the outset of the session, Director of Sessions and Committees Affairs Department Ahmed Sultan Al Ghanim read out the agenda, after which the Council approved the minutes of its previous session.

During the session, the Council approved a draft law on food in its amended form and referred it to the esteemed government. This came after reviewing the report of the Health, General Services and the Environment Committee and discussing its details by Their Excellencies the members.

The Council also reviewed a report by the Social Affairs, Labour and Housing Committee containing its opinion on the government’s statement regarding a proposal submitted by the Council on “family upbringing and strengthening national and social values among younger generations,” and took the appropriate decision on it.

The Council then reviewed a report on the participation of its delegation in the Second Women Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), held in January in Abu Dhabi.

It also reviewed a report on the participation of H E Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dabit Al Dosari in the meeting of the temporary diplomatic committee of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in February in Cairo, as well as a report on the participation of H E Dr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari in a parliamentary seminar organised via video conference, titled “Addressing Counterterrorism Frameworks: How Parliaments Can Protect Humanitarian Action and Support Compliance with International Humanitarian Law,” held in March. —
