DOHA: The first career -focused summer camp by Qatar Career Fair (QCF), held in partnership with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has attracted around 50 Qatari high school students.

Twenty-five girls and boys in the 10th,11th and 12th grades enrolled from various private and Independent Schools in Qatar. Held at Awsaj Academy in the Education City premises, the students will partake in a week-long series of professional activities designed to enhance their career planning skills.

“As Qatar’s economy continues to diversify and progress steadily towards becoming a knowledge-based economy, many young citizens are increasingly seeking opportunities to help them develop their skills and capabilities so that they can be a part of this dynamic shift”, says Director, QCF, Abdulla Al Mansoori.

“The encouraging response we received from these young high school students and their keenness to plan their futures from early stages of their lives is a testament to their desire to be involved in the country’s growth and development.”

Throughout the five day camp, HBKU staff will deliver a series of workshops including sessions on creative writing, preparing for university, as well as sustainability, all of which will enrich students’ academic experience outside the traditional classroom learning environments.

In addition, the camp will enable students to explore their interest and abilities in graphic design, photography and journalism, amongst others, so that they are better equipped to apply to the right universities upon finishing high school. The camp also focuses on personal development through workshops that emphasize personal responsibility in planning for their future.

A condensed version of the annual ground-breaking Qatar Career Fair will also be held to provide these ambitious young students with information on jobs, training and scholarships options that are available to them. The companies that will be participating in this segment are Qatargas, Qatar Airways, QAPCO, Dolphin Energy, Commercial Bank.

Students will also participate in various field trips to government and non-government companies such as Qatar Foundation (QF), Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar to explore career options, talk with representatives and obtain insights on what is required to plan their career.

The camp also features a series of engaging activities including an information technology competition, a sustainability and recycling activity and a football tournament. The camp will conclude this Thursday with an awards ceremony for the students.
