DOHA: Some of the world’s most prominent heart surgeons recently gathered in Doha to share their expertise as part of the third Qatar Heart Science Seminar.
The seminar was part of a series that brings together local and international experts to discuss the latest researches, development, innovations on issues pertinent to cardiovascular diseases and treatment options in Qatar and the wider world.
The two-day seminar, which was also attended by specialists from the Heart Hospital, tackled issues including the causes and treatment of heart failure and the use of artificial hearts.
Held at the Heart Hospital in partnership with the Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center, speakers included Dr Magdi Yacoub, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Imperial College London and from the United States Professor Robert Bonow from Northwestern University and Professor James Kirklin from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
“Through the regular seminar series, we aim to support doctors to deliver the highest levels of care and treatment to patients as well as introduce our clinicians to the latest developments in our field,” said Dr Yacoub. “The seminar series provides an invaluable platform to exchange experiences, ideas and knowledge with experts from round the world.”
Professor Robert Bonow spoke during the seminar about the different types of heart failure and the latest and most important scientific findings in this field in US and Europe.
Dr Amr Badr , consultant cardiologist at Heart Hospital, gave a presentation about the services available in Qatar and Professor James Kirklin spoke on the importance of performing blood and genetic tests for each patient to get a full picture of their condition.
