Doha: Qatar’s foreign trade surplus rose to QR33.3bn ($9.2bn) in May from QR30.9bn a year ago, a 7.8 percent jump.
A statement of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said yesterday that exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons increased 10.7 percent year-on-year to QR27.2bn in May.
In May 2014, the major countries of destination for Qatar’s exports were Japan with QR9.3bn, a share of 22.1 percent of total exports, South Korea with QR7.3bn (17.3 percent), and India with QR5.7bn (13.5 percent).
During May 2014, motor cars and other passenger vehicles was at the top of the imported group of commodities, with QR0.5bn, showing a decrease of 22.4 percent compared to May 2013. In second and third place were imports of iron ores and concentrates, including roasted iron pyrites reaching QR0.5bn, increased by 96 percent, and aircraft spare parts with QR0.4bn, decreased by 10.7 percent.
In May 2014, China was the leading country of origin of Qatar’s imports with QR0.9bn, a share of 10.3 percent of the imports. QNA
