Doha: QSL side Al Sailiya has signed Portuguese defender Ricardo Costa after protracted negotiations lasting over month.
The new deal will ensure that the club has a solid defensive line.
The Portuguese national signed a two-year deal to keep him at the club after passing his medical and will now join the Peregrines who have flown out to Milan, Italy, for a two-week overseas training camp.
The defender was with La Liga side Valencia until the deal was struck this week, he played for four seasons with the Spanish club, making 87 appearances and scoring 7 goals.
Attending the signing ceremony at the club’s headquarters, club Chairman Abdulla Alaidh and General Secretary Mohammed Ali Al Marri expressed their happiness with deal. “Richardo will be a strong addition to the team during the next phase of our journey. He has plenty of good qualities. He is not only a good defender but can also help start attacks from the back,” Alaidh said.
Lekhwiya fly to Austrian camp
Qatar Stars League Champions Lekhwiya flew out to the Austrian city of Linz on Thursday to continue preparations as they look to defend their league title.
The overseas training camp will finish on the August 10 and the team will head back to Doha to prepare for the Sheikh Jassim Cup, which will take place three days later on August 13.
Head Coach Michael Laudrup along with his technical staff and medical team will take charge of a number of training sessions as the players prepare for three friendlies.
The squad of players incudes Mohammed Razak, Vladimir Weiss, Joseph Msakni, Hussain Shihab, Ivan Rodriguez, Ahmed Al-Emadi, Omar Muharram, Ahmed Yasser, Ahmad Hatami, Ali Afif, Adel Ahmed, Tresor, Talal Saeed, Lassana Diaby, Khalid Radwan and Nam Tae-Hee.
A number of players — including Sebastian Soria, Karim Boudiaf, Louis Martin, Abdul Rahman Mohammed, Ismael Mohammed, Mohammed Musa, Nasser Khalfan and Ali Mohammed — will miss the start of the overseas camp due to other commitments.
El Jaish hold camp in Tunisia
El Jaish headed to the city of Tabarka in Tunisia for their preseason training camp on Wednesday.
The team will be back in the city on August 15 and head coach Nabil Maaloul will lead the training sessions for all 24 players.
The team had just returned after two weeks of in Brazil where they played a number of friendlies. The players rested during the festive period of Eid Al Fitr and are now in Tunisia.
