DOHA: Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) debit cardholders can now use their debit cards along with their credit cards to make secure online purchases and payments anywhere on the Web.
This includes purchase of travel tickets, luxury goods and payments for e-government services and utility bills.
This facility has been provided and verified in association with a 3D secure feature that adds additional layers of security to Internet-based credit and debit card purchases. For maximum customer protection, online purchases and payments with Debit Cards are allowed only on 3D secure enabled portals.
QIB offers a VISA Electron Card to all customers, with Tamayuz members receiving the Platinum MasterCard debit card, and Private Banking customers receiving the World MasterCard debit card.
“As a leading card issuer in Qatar, we are constantly looking for ways to enhance our products to provide new and unique services”, said D. Anand, General Manager for QIB’s Personal Banking Group. Being able to use their QIB debit cards online gives our customers more options for managing their purchases and payments – and the peace of mind that their transactions are always secure.
Since November 2014, QIB’s Personal Banking customers have been able to make secure online card payments using their QIB credit cards. The Bank has now expanded that offering to include its debit cards. The free, easy-to- use service makes online credit card and debit card transactions more secure by employing one- time passwords.
Each time QIB customers use their debit or credit card to make a purchase online, a new window appears requesting them to enter a one-time password. Customers can generate the one-time password using QIB’s Aman app or have it sent by SMS to the mobile phone registered to their account.
“On the subject of security, all our customers should be also aware that QIB will never ask them to reply in an email with any personal information such as their ID number, Debit card and account details or any kind of passwords and PINs,” Anand said.
