Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the State of Qatar H E Neerav Patel and Acting Secretary-General of QRCS, Abdullah Sultan Al-Qatan signing the agreement.
Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed a cooperation agreement with the British Embassy in Doha to launch a continuation of the Psychosocial Support for Palestinian Families Hosted in Qatar project through March 2027. The agreement was signed by British Ambassador H E Neerav Patel and Acting Secretary-General of QRCS, Abdullah Sultan Al-Qatan.
The signing ceremony was attended by several QRCS representatives, including Treasurer of QRCS, Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Abdullah; Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development, Mohamed Bader Al-Sada.
Also present were Assistant Secretary-General for Volunteering and Local Development, Hussein Aman Al-Ali; Director of Human Resources and Administrative Affairs, Ahmed Saleh Al-Khalaf and Chief Ambassador of QRCS, Yousef Mohamed Al-Awadi.
Representatives of the British Embassy included First Secretary for Development, Dr. Kwalombota M. Kwalombota and Head of Internal Political Affairs and Communications, Eynas Ahmed.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Al-Sada said, “This agreement reflects our common belief that mental health and psychosocial support are essential pillars of humanitarian response. Helping people recover from trauma is not only about addressing today’s challenges — it is about restoring hope, strengthening resilience, and enabling a better future.
“Phase 3 builds on the important work carried out by our Emergency Response Unit for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support during the previous two phases in serving the Palestinians evacuated from Gaza to Qatar. As we move forward, our focus is shifting from emergency response to a more sustainable approach that emphasizes community empowerment, institutional development, and long-term capacity-building.
“Behind every activity we implement and every milestone we achieve are families who have endured unimaginable hardship. Our responsibility goes beyond meeting immediate needs. It is to help people regain a sense of security, restore their confidence, and move forward with hope and dignity.
“This agreement reaffirms the shared commitment of QRCS and the British Embassy to supporting the Palestinian families hosted in Qatar throughout their journey of healing and recovery. It also demonstrates what can be achieved when humanitarian partners work together with a shared vision and a common purpose,” he added.
Ambassador Patel said, “Over the past two years, the partnership has delivered vital mental health and psychosocial support to the Palestinian families hosted in Qatar, creating safe spaces, strengthening communities, providing therapy, and supporting those facing difficult circumstances."
“This third phase will continue support for affected families while also investing in the future,” he added. “Through psychological first aid and wellbeing programmes in schools, it will help equip teachers and young people with the tools to build resilience and mental wellbeing. In doing so, we move beyond responding to trauma and help build stronger support systems where mental health is recognized as a vital part of recovery and development.”
Since its launch in January 2025, the partnership has continued to strengthen support for those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
These efforts align with Qatar’s longstanding commitment to promoting mental wellbeing, strengthening community resilience, and ensuring early intervention for psychosocial needs, through close collaboration with key partners.
