Qatar strengthens joint GCC action on agriculture and food security

Doha, Qatar: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipality H E Ali bin Mohammed Al Ali, led the State of Qatar’s delegation to the 34th Meeting of GCC Undersecretaries for Agriculture and Food Security, held this yesterday morning via videoconference.

In his address, the Undersecretary affirmed Qatar’s commitment to continued active participation in joint GCC efforts and to strengthening cooperation and coordination in agriculture and food security, in support of sustainable food supplies and greater GCC readiness to meet regional and international challenges.

He underlined the importance of continuing to implement the GCC Food Security Strategy and its programmes, projects and joint initiatives, reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities under the strategy and to strengthening follow-up mechanisms and measuring implementation progress in order to achieve its objectives and deepen integration among GCC member states.

He also commended ongoing efforts to study the establishment of GCC strategic reserve zones for food, medicine and other essential supplies, stressing the importance of this initiative for building an integrated Gulf strategic storage system, strengthening the resilience of food systems and ensuring the continuity of essential supplies during crises and emergencies.

At the national level, he noted that Qatar continues to strengthen its food security system by supporting local production, enhancing strategic reserves, expanding the use of modern agricultural technology and innovation, deepening partnerships with the private sector, diversifying import sources and improving the efficiency of supply chains.
