The Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, visiting the exhibition showcasing achievements in education in the GCC countries, on the sidelines of the meeting at Doha Sheraton yesterday.
DOHA: The 2015-2020 educational strategy for the Gulf region was discussed at the seventh consultative meeting of Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) at Doha Sheraton yesterday.
The meeting was attended by the education ministers of the GCC countries as members of ABEGS, educationists, Independent school operators and representatives of foreign schools in Qatar.
“The meeting aims at exchanging important experiences and viewpoints and ideas in the education sector, which is considered one of the most important sectors of development,” said the Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, also Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), in his inaugural speech.
“The GCC states are always seeking to develop their education sectors through their national visions, strategic development plans and development initiatives,” he added.
He said Qatar had made remarkable achievements in the education sector and is working to implement the Education and Training Sector Strategy 2011-2016 that includes 20 programmes.
Relations with local, regional and international educational organisations are being strengthened to develop the programmes that cater to the job market.
On the e-education initiative in Qatar, the Minister said it began in a group of schools and students have been provided devices to pursue it. E-services also have been provided to teachers of achieve the goal.
He said a meeting in Oman earlier had called on the director of the ABEGS to organise a meeting to develop a mechanism to utilise experiences in various fields of education in ABEGS states.
“The strategy of the ABEGS is prepared according to a decision adopted by the 22nd General Conference,” said Dr Ali bin Abdul Khaliq Al Qarni, Director-General of ABEGS.
The most important content of the new strategy is to hold global partnerships to transfer knowledge, gain outstanding experience and strengthen the role of the Beta Office, said Al Qarni.
He said to implement this strategy, the bureau had entered a partnership with the International Society for Technology in Education.
An exhibition of important achievements in education in member countries was held on the sidelines of the meeting.
