ISLAMABAD: Finally, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decided to hold its provincial government’s long-awaited cabinet meeting and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s session, two cabinet ministers said.
Information Minister Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said the cabinet meeting was expected within a few days, before Eidul Azha. Another important cabinet member of the PTI government, Education Minister Muhammad Atif Khan, confirmed the cabinet was going to meet before Eidul Azha.
The decision to hold cabinet and assembly meeting is an indication that the PTI government is now shifting back its attention to the affairs of the government. PTI’s sit-in in Islamabad against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had brought the province to a standstill.
This cabinet meeting, if convened, would be held after almost four months break. The last meeting took place before budget session, on June 6, 2014.
Atif Khan also corroborated that it was in early June that the cabinet met. It could not meet because budget session was immediately followed by Ramadan and then the PTI launched its sit-in.
“It’s been a long time the cabinet did not meet,” Atif Khan said. “Different issues must have piled up which would be discussed in the meeting,” he added.
Exact agenda of the meeting remains unknown, but the minister said some issues regarding health, wildlife and forest would be among the items that would be thrashed out. INTERNEWS
