Doha: Officials of the Permanent Committee for Supervising the Management of Central Markets inspected the readiness of Al-Sailiya Central Market in preparation for the launch of the local agricultural season, as part of its efforts to monitor the level of operational and service preparations and support farmers and local agricultural products, contributing to enhancing food security, market stability, and meeting consumer needs.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed in a statement today that the field visit included reviewing the readiness of market facilities and supporting services for marketing and supply operations, and assessing the level of preparedness for the agricultural season, ensuring the smooth flow of product circulation and meeting market needs in the coming period.
It pointed out that the committee monitored the availability of vegetables and fruits and the diversity of their sources, in addition to assessing the needs of farmers and market workers and exploring ways to support local agricultural products and enhance farmers' benefit from the central markets system, thus supporting the sustainability of the agricultural sector and contributing to the enhancement of food security.
During the visit, the committee reviewed the level of services and operational facilities in the market, including cleaning, maintenance, organization, and the measures taken to provide a suitable environment for both vendors and shoppers, in addition to monitoring the main operational challenges and discussing appropriate solutions to address them.
The committee affirmed the importance of continuous field follow-up on the readiness of the central markets, and enhancing coordination and cooperation among the various concerned entities, which supports the development of the central markets system, improves its efficiency, and strengthens its ability to provide agricultural and food products continuously and with appropriate quality.
