DOHA: A double by Adriano Martins yesterday helped Eljaish rally for an impressive 3-2 win over Al Khor in round six of the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
Martins struck twice on penalties (47 and 58) after Wagner Renan (27) had scored the first goal for his team at Qatar Sports Club Stadium.
For Al Khor, Madosn (9) and Julio Cesar (58) found the net for the losers.
Eljaish, coached by Razvan Lucescu, now have 9 points from 6 matches.
Al Khor have a tally of a 6 points from as many matches.
Also yesterday, defending champions Lekhwiya rode their luck on a late strike by Adel Ahmed to beat Al Gharafa in their round six QSL clash.
Ahmed’s bullet from long-range was fumbled by Al Gharafa goalkeeper in extra time as Lekhwiya walked off the Al Gharafa Stadium with three valuable points.
Coach Eric Gerets celebrated the late goal with high-fives with backroom staff and team players.
Two-time QSL champions Lekhwiya now have 10 points from 6 matches.
Al Gharafa, three-time QSL champions and now coached by Paulo Silas, have a disappointing tally of 6 points from 6 matches.
In another match, Morocco international Houssine Kharja produced a late equaliser for Al Arabi in a 2-2 draw against Al Sailiyah.
Kharja converted a penalty in extra time after Al Arabi were trailing 1-2 at Al Rayyan Satdium.
A couple of minutes earlier, team mate Abdul Aziz Al Sulaiti scored Al Arabi’s first goal in the 87th minute.
For Al Sailiyah, Mamouni Dagano scored a brace (46 and 77, penalty). Al Arabi, coached by Hassan Shehata, have 4 points from 6 matches.
